SRT: World Leading Innovator in Maritime Domain Awareness Systems to Speak in Qatar
An expert speaker in the field of AIS, a technology critical for safe navigation and pinpointing the location of maritime vessels, has been added to the distinguished panel of speakers at the Qatar Maritime Security - Coastal and Border Surveillance Conference (QMARSEC).
The third annual QMARSEC conference will take place on 28 October 2015 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Doha, Qatar under the theme "The Future of Automatic Identification System (AIS) Technologies and Deployments.” This year’s event will focus on all aspects of border and maritime security, with a special emphasis on the technologies, sensors, and identification systems that are a key component of border security programs.
With a space of only a few years QMARSEC has established a solid reputation as an international venue where the latest maritime surveillance and management technologies, systems and ideas are show cased and discussed by industry professionals and global authorities and decision makers. Qatar itself is wisely investing its considerable intellectual and monetary capital to seek out and acquire the very best systems and from this unique position is ideally situated to host such an event.
"Simon Tucker’s groundbreaking work with AIS technology has been critical to the growth of the field,” said Staff Brigadier (Pilot) General Mohammed Al-Mannai, Director of the National Shield Project of Qatar. "I am pleased that he will be joining our panel of distinguished speakers at QMARSEC 2015.”
Simon Tucker is CEO of UK-based SRT Marine Technology Limited, the world’s leading developer and provider of AIS transceiver technologies and products. SRT has been developing AIS technologies and products since 1999 and has pioneered several key technologies in the field, in particular those focusing on Software Radio Technology (SRT) for maritime applications. Today, the company provides over 110 customers worldwide with a wide variety of AIS module and customized product solutions from Class A and Class B to advanced receivers, tools for aiding navigation, and specialist custom devices. Customers around the world include authorities, governments and leading marine electronics companies seeking low cost, high quality, reliable AIS
technology and product solutions. With over 90% of all AIS products worldwide reliant on SRT-derived technology, the company plays an important role in the development and evolution of AIS standards.
Simon Tucker will be sharing SRT’s considerable global experience of implementing national scale maritime management systems. The benefits, how they integrate and enhance existing surveillance focused systems, the challenges faced with these large projects and ultimately how, through a combination of careful planning and technology these challenges are overcome to ensure a smooth and successful implementation of the highest integrity.
Simon Tucker said: "I am honoured to have been invited to speak at such a prestigious and serious event. As the world’s leading innovator in AIS based systems, I believe that we can make an excellent contribution to QMARSEC and provide delegates with a valuable insight as to where AIS technology is headed in the future and how it can be harnessed to provide a very high level of maritime domain awareness.”
The annual QMARSEC conference provides a forum that encourages information sharing and cooperation among military, government, industry and academic maritime security experts from around the world. The conference encourages the development of joint endeavors, particularly new technologies, in order to deepen and enhance inter- agency cooperation and collaboration to mitigate future security threats.
About SRT

These are customised and provided to a global customer base to meet worldwide market demand to identify and track vessels of all sizes in leisure, commercial and homeland security applications.
About Automatic Identification System (AIS)
AIS is an international maritime tracking and monitoring technology developed and maintained by the ITU under the auspices of the IMO and UN. Since the first global mandate by the IMO on all ocean going vessels over 300GT in 2002, AIS has proliferated worldwide to become the technology of choice to enhance maritime domain awareness: vessel tracking, port and coast security, pollution monitoring, fisheries management.
AIS is a sophisticated real time mesh network technology which uses an intelligent combination of VHF and GPS technologies to provide constantly updated data on the identity and movement of vessels and other marine objects. For further information please visit: www.allaboutais.com
