SAIC Awarded Contract By NASA

MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by NASA to provide a broad range of scientific, health, engineering, operational, and technical support services to the agency's Johnson Space Center Human Health and Performance (HH&P) directorate and the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD) Human Research Program (HRP), which is managed at JSC. The single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has a 10-year period of performance, including a five-year base period, one three-year option, and one two-year option, and a total contract value of approximately $1.8 billion, if all options are exercised.  Work will be performed primarily at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas and the White Sands Test Facility near Las Cruces, N.M.

NASA's Johnson Space Center is the nucleus of the astronaut corps, and home to International Space Station mission operations and a host of future space exploration developments. Its HH&P teams are dedicated to optimizing human health and productivity for space exploration.

Under the HH&P contract, SAIC will support fundamental and applied biomedical and space cell biology research and development; operational space medicine; operation of the HH&P directorate laboratories; the development and application of space environmental factors, human factors, human system integration and biomedical engineering; design, development, test, evaluation, and operation of biomedical flight hardware; and integration of payloads, experiments, and hardware with the International Space Station. The contract also provides critical support in the areas of flight medicine, occupational medicine, human test support, and occupational health.

"This new strategic win will expand our longstanding partnership with NASA by providing critical support and capability on the HH&P contract," said Chairman and CEO John Jumper.  "We are proud and honored to play a role in current and future human spaceflight missions, and to assist NASA in enhancing collaboration across health and life sciences customers."
