Saia Q4 EPS Rises, Misses By A Penny

(RTTNews) - Saia, Inc. (SAIA), a transportation and logistics services provider, Friday reported a rise in fourth-quarter earnings as revenue increased. The company cited meaningful yield increases, and efficiency and technology initiatives that helped the earnings growth. Earnings, however, missed analysts' estimates by a penny.

Earnings advanced to $8.06 million, or $0.32 per share, from $5.41 million, or $0.22 per share, a year ago. On average, 10 analysts polled by Thomson-Reuters estimated the company's earnings to be $0.33 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

For the fourth quarter, operating revenue rose to $279.65 million from $264.43 million a year ago. Analysts expected revenue of $277.14 million. LTL tonnage increased to 888,000 from 863,000 a year ago,while shipments rose to 1.49 million from 1.466 million in the year-ago period.
