SAE International Mobility History Committee to Feature Four Activity Areas, Discussions and Presentations During WCX World Congress Experience

DETROIT, April 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The SAE International Mobility History Committee will host four areas featuring presentations, sessions and displays during the WCX World Congress Experience, which will be held April 10-12 in Detroit.

Area 1, The SAE Journey Area: Will feature two vehicles and one display.

• 1923 Stanley Steamer
• 1934 Chrysler Airflow
• "The Evolution of Crash Testing" by Autoliv
• The 1918 Liberty Truck: thanks to the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission

Area 2, Booth 14001: Will feature a History of the Future Display of nine historic vehicles whose innovations paved the fascinating road toward autonomy.                    

Vehicles will include:

• 1918 Detroit Electric Brougham: silent, simple operation
• 1912 Cadillac Model 30: first electric starter and complete electrical system
• 1916 Scripps Booth Model C: early use of speed control
• 1956 GM Firebird II: mid-century autonomous concept
• 1960 Cadillac Coupe DeVille: first automatic speed control
• 1979 Cadillac Seville: first microprocessor
• 1988 Cadillac Voyage Concept: arrival of navigation and vehicle tracking
• 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe: "The Boss": Autonomous Driving becomes reality
• 2014 Chevrolet EN-V 2.0: self-driving with V-2-X connectivity

Area 3, The Learning Lab: Will feature three talks on Thursday, April 12, 10 a.m.-Noon. They will include:

• "The Evolution of Crash Testing" by Doug Stein, Autoliv
• "The History of the Future: The Auto World from Slow to Supersonic" by         Dr. David E. Cole, Chairman & Founder of AutoHarvest Foundation, SAE Fellow
• "The History of the Future: The Road to Autonomy" by Erika Andén, SAE MHC

Area 4, Room 331B: Will feature four presentations from 1-4 p.m. on Thursday, April 12.

The sessions are:

• 1-1:45 p.m. – Early Aerodynamics and Streamlining by David Rand
• 1:45-2:30 p.m. – The World War I Liberty Truck by Dennis Skupinski
• 2:30-3:15 p.m. – Cars and Culture by Al Bosley
• 3:15- 4 p.m. – Theory and Operation of Steam Cars by Joe Fedullo
