(RTTNews) - Ruby Tuesday Inc. (RT) Wednesday reported first-quarter net loss of $22.2 million, or $0.37 per share, compared to net income of $2.6 million, or $0.04 per share in the comparable quarter last year.

Loss from continuing operations excluding special items for the quarter was $0.36 per share, compared to earnings of $0.05 per share last year. On average, six analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected a loss of $0.05 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenues for the quarter dropped to $289.67 million from $327.92 million in the previous year quarter. Analysts expected revenues of $298.27 million for the quarter.
