Royal Caribbean Hit With Norovirus Outbreak On Two Ships

(RTTNews) - More than 200 passengers on two separate cruise ships were taken ill with norovirus-like symptoms, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC health officials and epidemiologists are to set to board Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas ship and Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Infinity ship in order to review the ship.

Both ships now back at port, and they will undergo a thorough cleaning.

About 133 people were reported falling ill on the Legend of the Seas, while some 106 people fell sick on Celebrity Infinity.

Norovirus is a very contagious virus which can infect a person through another infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus causes stomach or intestines or both to get inflamed leading to stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea. The symptoms can be serious for some people, especially young children and older adults.
