RDV OACIQ 2018: Because public trust needs to be earned

SAINT-HYACINTHE, QC, Oct.18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - In Quebec, 57% of people do not trust organizations.* The RDV OACIQ 2018 event, which has just ended at the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Centre is the latest action taken by the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) as part of its concrete initiative to increase public trust in real estate brokerage transactions.

A proactive initiative
As a regulator of real estate brokerage whose mission is to protect the public, the OACIQ, in collaboration with the Institut de la confiance dans les organisations (ICO,) started this year a series of measures to improve consumer trust. "More than ever, consumers expect companies to take the lead, to be agents of change and, through their actions, create a lasting relationship of trust with consumers. That is exactly what we are doing," says Nadine Lindsay, the President and CEO of the OACIQ.

The OACIQ began its trust initiative by training the members of its board of Directors, its managers and employees, so that they could become ambassadors of trust.

"The ICO is pleased to see an organization such as the OACIQ engage in an organizational trust initiative, a first for a self-regulatory organization in Canada. Ultimately, it's consumers who will stand to gain from this," said MeDonald Riendeau, co-founder of ICO.

Competence, a pledge of trust
During this important event, hundreds of real estate and mortgage brokers were invited to become trusted intermediaries for their clients. Thus, renowned speakers shared their expertise and were able to show the inseparable link between career success and trust.

"The brokers' role is to reduce the risks associated with real estate or mortgage transactions. And it is by leveraging their expertise, professionalism, ethics and training, as well as the OACIQ's supervision that they achieve this. This is how consumers can be convinced of their added value and feel confident," said Nadine Lindsay.

In 2019, the Organization will continue to work to increase and maintain public trust in the OACIQ and real estate brokerage, by highlighting the protection mechanisms set out in the Real Estate Brokerage Act and by continuing to supervise, train and equip OACIQ license holders.
