Progress Software Extends OpenEdge Application Development Platform
Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a global supplier of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced the availability of the Progress® OpenEdge® 10.2A business application development platform. With the release of OpenEdge 10.2A, Progress offers customers and Applications Partners new graphical user interface (GUI) capabilities that enable them to build a Microsoft .NET-based Windows Graphics User Interface (GUI) natively within the award-winning OpenEdge development platform - without requiring any training or prior knowledge of .NET itself.
Progress OpenEdge is an integrated platform for the rapid development, deployment and management of business applications that are standards-based and service-oriented. For more than 25 years, Progress customers and partners have preserved their technology investments by relying upon the Progress OpenEdge platform to isolate them from the evolving and constantly shifting technology standards. This has allowed Progress customers and its application partners to focus their energies on the business logic, functions, and features that drive their applications, and serve to distinguish it in a competitive fashion from other applications on the market.
"The latest version of OpenEdge allows our developers to enhance our applications while leveraging the functionality we’ve already developed. We are able to continuously build on the existing business logic and application functionality to swiftly develop new features, providing us with a competitive distinction in the market place,” said Tony Vertenten, CTO, Intris. "With OpenEdge our programmers aren’t spending valuable time having to learn Microsoft programming languages or .NET application development tools and we can reap the benefits of a single development platform [OpenEdge] for our entire product family.”
In addition, OpenEdge Architect, the Eclipse-based development environment for OpenEdge, has been extended as part of the OpenEdge 10.2A release to integrate seamlessly with the Progress Sonic® Workbench, an Eclipse-based service-oriented architecture (SOA) toolset for modeling, configuring, testing, and deploying processes and services using products in the Progress Sonic® ESB Product Family. The tighter integration between the two products means that developers can even more easily create applications with OpenEdge that are immediately deployable within SOA environments.
Ken Wilner, vice president of technology, Progress Software, said: "It is the simplicity and comprehensiveness of the OpenEdge platform that distinguishes OpenEdge from other development platforms – a point that our customers and Application Partners value the most. We enhance our software so that developers can adopt new capabilities incrementally, but still reuse existing programs and code in their applications. This translates into real savings as it lowers the cost of software development and deployment compared to other business application development platforms. We have extended the value proposition with the latest version of OpenEdge in two areas that are critical to all modern business applications: first, we significantly simplified the ability of OpenEdge developers to build compelling, state of the art contemporary user interfaces for their applications and second, we enhanced developers’ ability to integrate their applications with other applications using a service-oriented architecture.”
