PowerDsine Powers NETGEAR ProSafe Power over Ethernet Switches; PowerD

    FARMINGDALE, N.Y. & HOD HASHARON, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2005--PowerDsine(TM) Ltd. (NASDAQ:PDSN), a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, announced today that NETGEAR, Inc., a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, is using PowerDsine's IEEE 802.3af compatible PD64004 PoE solution in its newly released NETGEAR ProSafe(TM) 8 Port 10/100 Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE (FS108P).
    Leveraging PowerDsine's PoE chip solution, the compact NETGEAR ProSafe switch now allows companies to optimize the installation of IP-based network devices, such as Wireless Access Points and network-based video surveillance systems. Typically, these devices need to be deployed in locations that are difficult to reach and as a result may not have the infrastructure necessary to provide electrical AC operating power. For example, to achieve effective area coverage and radio reception, Wireless Access Points are mounted above the ceiling plates where it is rare to find an AC outlet. By PoE-enabling a network, network administrators no longer need to place these devices near AC power outlets or contract an electrician to install new power outlets which can be an expensive and time-consuming endeavor.
    Furthermore, a PoE-enabled Ethernet network deployed in conjunction with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) can provide centralized back up for continued operation of a WLAN or network-based surveillance system during power outages.
