Plastic Omnium Wins a Bid for 225 Underground Containers in Gand, Belgium

Plastic Omnium (Paris:POM) strengthens its positions in Belgium by winning the Gand contract for the supply, computerized management and maintenance of 225 underground containers.
This contract, worth a total of €3.3 million, brings the group's market share to 35% of all underground containers in Belgium.

Plastic Omnium supports IVAGO, the inter-communal union for waste management in Gand and its surrounding areas, with its proactive environmental approach aimed at promoting the sorting of waste at source. Between 2016 and 2020, voluntary waste drop-off points will be installed to enable the local authority to bill 10,000 residents of the community for their unsorted residual waste.

For each drop-off point, Plastic Omnium supplies underground containers for the collection of paper/cardboard, glass, packaging, organic waste, and residual waste. The residual waste container boasts the most recent innovation by Plastic Omnium: two drums, one for 30-liter bags and the other for 60-liter bags, thereby ensuring more accurate billing.

These drop-off points are equipped with Plastic Omnium solutions for computerized waste management. The OptiAccess® system for identifying and transmitting data enables the local authority to identify the resident via a name badge and to bill him/her depending on the size of the bag dropped off. The Optifill® system measures the fill-level to optimize the collection frequency.

Lastly, Plastic Omnium provides preventive maintenance and repair services, cleaning/disinfection and battery replacement services for all the underground containers over a period of 10 years.
