Pennsylvania Secretary Wiessmann Elected as Trustee of Investor Protection Trust

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann was elected this week as a trustee for the Washington, DC-based Investor Protection Trust (IPT).

"When Governor Tom Wolf announced our Consumer Financial Protection Initiative in 2015, his stated goal was to 'educate the public about financial protection and best practices,'" said Wiessmann. "Our partnership with the Investor Protection Trust has provided invaluable support for achieving this goal. I am honored by this election, and pledge my dedicated effort to help Pennsylvanians through the IPT mission."

The Investor Protection Trust is a nonprofit organization devoted to investor education. The primary mission of IPT is to provide independent, objective information needed by consumers to make informed investment decisions. The Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities works with the Investor Protection Trust on several initiatives, including:

  • The Campaign for Safe and Wise Investing, a statewide outreach program that provides retirees and senior citizens information on how to recognize, avoid, and report financial fraud and abuse.
  • "When I'm 65," a national public television documentary and engagement program exploring how people's financial and lifestyle choices today will affect their quality of life in retirement. This documentary has been aired on WHYY-TV in Philadelphia and WITF in Harrisburg, and is set to air on WQED in Pittsburgh on May 8.
  • DASH for the STASH, which is a multi-state program and poster contest aimed at improving investor understanding on four topics: financial advisers; investment fees; investment fraud; and building a retirement nest egg.

"Having Secretary Wiessmann serve as a trustee for the Investor Protection Trust will produce great benefits for investors," said Governor Wolf. "Her experience and knowledge will greatly enhance investor education and protections across the country, help ensure the integrity of our financial markets, as well as make sure that Pennsylvania perspectives are heard on the national stage."
