PCTEL Announces Roaming Client-VE Enhancements to Further IMS, Fixed Mobile Convergence Applications; First in the Industry to Deliver Seamless Handoff on Windows Mobile 5.0 Platform

PCTEL, Inc. (Nasdaq:PCTI), a leader in wirelessbroadband solutions, today announced expanded capabilities for itsRoaming Client-VE (Voice Enabled) software at the 2006 3GSM WorldCongress in Barcelona. This expansion provides Voice Call Continuity(VCC) based on the emerging 3GPP standard and support for Microsoft(R)Windows(R) Mobile 5.0.

Additionally, the PCTEL Roaming Client-VE delivers an IPMultimedia Subsystem (IMS)-compliant core engine, facilitatingportability to other operating systems and enhancing integration ofthird-party applications through a published API. These newcapabilities along with other enterprise features, such as four digitdialing, address the growing need for service providers to deliverseamless fixed and mobile call connectivity between disparate networksand provide a framework for third-party IMS application developers.

PCTEL's Roaming Client-VE is an IMS-ready software client enablingubiquitous communications over both Wi-Fi and traditional cellularnetworks. Designed for next-generation dual-mode handset devices andinteroperable with major IMS-infrastructure vendors, the RoamingClient-VE allows service providers and cable operators to deliver truemobility to their end users.

Combined with VCC capabilities, users can movefrom Wi-Fi to cellular coverage and vice-versa without dropping thecall. The calls are seamlessly handed over based on the best networkconnectivity available to the device and/or user preference.

"Seamless cross-network roaming and call continuity are majorconsiderations for carriers and handset manufacturers in thedeployment of fixed/mobile convergence services," said Biju Nair, vicepresident and general manager of PCTEL's Mobility Solutions Group."The new enhancements to our roaming client product provide a powerfulsolution for these challenges while reinforcing our strategy ofsimplifying mobility."

Several IMS infrastructure companies and handset manufacturershave licensed PCTEL's Roaming Client-VE. PCTEL supports a wide rangeof devices and platforms for IMS and fixed/mobile convergenceapplications. PCTEL continues to work closely with other leadingtechnology companies on the evolving Voice Call Continuity standard, which is based on the TR23.806 recommendation provided by 3GPP.
