PCCW Deploys Acme Packet Session Border Controllers for its Next Generation Network

Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that PCCW Ltd., the largest integrated wired and wireless communications service provider in Hong Kong, has deployed Acme Packet’s Net-Net® session border controllers (SBCs) as part of a next-generation network migration plan. Net-Net 4500 SBCs are deployed at major access network aggregation points to provide security and maximize the reach of PCCW’s residential VoIP services.

PCCW is a quadruple-play service provider in Hong Kong offering wireless, wireline, IPTV and Internet services to business and residential customers. PCCW currently has more than 2.5 million business and residential lines in service and plans to expand its service portfolio using the next-generation network in the future.

At PCCW’s access borders, Net-Net 4500 SBCs provide extensive security and control capabilities to protect and optimize its VoIP network. Acme Packet’s Net-SAFE® security framework provides protection against DoS/DDoS attacks and overloads, while topology hiding and access control lists keep unauthorized and malicious traffic from disrupting service availability. Adaptive hosted NAT traversal eliminates the roadblocks to incoming calls created by premise-based NAT devices and firewalls. Acme Packet’s SIP signaling normalization allows PCCW’s multi-vendor network to smoothly interoperate, maximizing its service reach.

"The migration to our next-generation network will enable us to deliver compelling IP communication services to our customers,” said Hermes Lin, project manager and technical head, NGN project for PCCW. "Acme Packet SBCs are critical to this transformation by enabling rapid interoperability among our multi-vendor network elements and delivering comprehensive security and service assurance features to support our IP communication services today and in the future.”

"PCCW is delivering innovative quadruple-play services to millions of customers in Hong Kong,” said Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet’s vice president of marketing and product management. "Acme Packet’s SBCs play a pivotal role in helping solve the challenges that PCCW faces as the company delivers high-quality IP communication services over its next-generation network.”
