OSC Announces New Commissioner Appointment

TORONTO, April 17, 2019 /CNW/ - Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) Chair and CEO Maureen Jensen is pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Hayman to the Commission, to serve a two-year term.

Craig has over three decades of financial services and leadership experience, including 17 years as an investment advisor and senior leader with Edward Jones Investments Canada. Prior to his retirement from Edward Jones in 2016, he held numerous responsibilities within the Canadian division, including leading the Products, Services and Marketing Division; taking responsibility for Financial Advisor Recruiting, Training and Development; and overall branch leadership for all 700 branches in Canada. Craig spent the early part of his career in pension administration and investment with several large financial institutions, and is also a CFA Charterholder.

"Craig brings a fantastic balance of both retail and institutional investing expertise to the Commission," said Chair Jensen. "I look forward to his perspective as we work to deliver responsive regulation that promotes confidence in Ontario's capital markets."

The Commission has two related but independent roles. It serves as the Board of Directors of the OSC and performs a regulatory function, which includes making rules and policies and adjudicating administrative proceedings.

The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk.
