OKI Launches "Mission-critical Systems Migration Support Services"

OKI Electric Industry (TOKYO: 6703) today announced the launch of a "Mission-critical Systems Migration Support System (*1)", ideal middleware (*2) for mission-critical systems providing comprehensive support for upgrades and transitions for Oracle Tuxedo to a Java environment. The system is for the Japanese market and sales start today.

This system comprises four services transcending conventional migration services: Oracle Tuxedo installation support; upgrading migration support; assessments; and migration to Java, all drawing on OKI's extensive expertise in Web transactions (*3) gathered over more than 15 years. OKI's sales goal is 150 million yen over the next three years.

Oracle Tuxedo is middleware (TP monitor) (*4) offering features like transaction and server process management, as well as the request orders and priority controls essential for establishing MCS. It is currently deployed in several systems used by major telecommunications and financial institutions. However, the difficulty of securing engineers who understand Oracle Tuxedo's functions and who have the C and/or COBOL language skills needed to work with Oracle Tuxedo has posed a major challenge for first-time installations and for systems maintenance. In addition, with the widespread growth of the open source movement (*5), users are increasingly asking to migrate from systems using Oracle Tuxedo to open-source Java systems, as typified by Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Middleware (*6).

Backed by expertise gathered over 15 years, OKI is one of the leaders in the field of Web transactions. The company was the first to begin providing Oracle Tuxedo in 1992 in Japan and has provided products and services through business partner solutions in the financial and telecommunication markets. Additionally, OKI offers more than ten years of experience and a proven track record in installing Oracle WebLogic Server (*8), a Java EE application server (*7).

OKI has also proactively promoted open source in response to the needs of cost-conscious companies. In particular, for JBoss Enterprise Middleware (*9), an open-source-based middleware product line, OKI was the first Japanese company to conclude a JBoss Premier Business Partner contract with provider Red Hat in May 2009, positioning it as the ideal partner in Japan.

"OKI has provided two services to this point based on these achievements and know-how, Oracle Tuxedo installation and support for migration from existing Oracle Tuxedo installations to upgraded versions," said Yuichiro Hiranuma, General Manager of Software Center, IT Solutions and Services Business Division at OKI. "To these, OKI has added two other services: assessment and migration support service from Oracle Tuxedo to Java, building up to a ‘Mission-critical Systems Migration Support Service', which meets company needs for MCS installation and maintenance. We plan to support companies deploying MCS to select the ideal middleware and to promote migration. Moving forward, we plan to sell and provide the new service to systems integrators and to business partners."

"We are proud to work with OKI to bring the power of open source middleware to the Japanese markets," said Ashesh Badani, Sr. Director, Middleware Products, Red Hat. "Many industries will benefit by moving from proprietary systems to the leading open source solution- JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, and our partnership with OKI will help to facilitate this."

OKI will meet the development needs of the MCS market through this service and by meeting corporate needs.
