Nissan Recalls Leaf Electric Cars Missing Welds, Will Replace Entire Vehicle
(RTTNews) - Nissan is recalling more than 200 model year 2014 LEAF electric cars manufactured in the U.S. earlier this year.
The front structural member assembly may be missing welds, which could reduce the structural integrity of the vehicle if the vehicle is involved in a crash. The entire vehicle missing welds will be replaced, free of charge, when the recall begins mid-June.
All of the vehicles were manufactured at the company's Smyrna, Tennessee plant between February 28 and March 12 of this year.
Nissan says that vehicles manufactured outside of these dates are not affected.
The recall was made public in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Nissan is aiming to sell 100,000 Leaf vehicles per year by the time it launches a second generation of the car in 2017, according to Green Car Reports.
The car's 100% electric motor is powered exclusively by an advanced lithium-ion battery that you can charge at home, or on-the-go.
