New TouchPrint(TM) 4100 Slap & Roll Live Fingerprint Scanning Unit from Identix Delivers Enhanced Image Definition in a Compact Footprint
Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq:IDNX), the world's leading providerof multi-biometric solutions, today set a new standard of imagequality within federally mandated form factor requirements for livescan fingerprint image scanning devices with the introduction of theTouchPrint(TM) Enhanced Definition 4100 Slap & Roll Live Scan. Theproduct delivers revolutionary enhanced definition capabilities in amore compact unit -- a 6 inch by 6 inch footprint that weighs lessthan five pounds. The unit goes beyond simply meeting physical sizerequirements to fit tabletop spaces, kiosks and portable applicationsby adding exceptional image detail and clarity when compared tostandard definition systems. The product also incorporates a number ofnew features designed to enhance usability and performance for dualcriminal and civil applications.
Units are expected to be available for commercial shipment inSeptember, 2006, with demonstration units available by end of July.
"We understand the challenges of fingerprint capture in the fieldmore than any other live scan vendor," stated Dr. Joseph J. Atick,President and CEO of Identix. "Meeting the minimum form-factorrequirements set forth by the federal agencies is important, but inour opinion, is not enough - image quality is of paramount importance,as is end user ease of use. Our customers have repeatedly experiencedthe superior image quality delivered by Identix' enhanced definitionand understand this is the lynchpin to making an identificationprogram successful. The ease of use and reliability features ensurethat our customers continue to experience the other added benefitsthey have come to expect from us. For example, with no silicon pads tochange, we have taken out a major source of variability and cost. Weare pleased to provide this capability for both rolls and slaps in asmall form factor, making it even more suitable and accessible foragencies that operate with space restrictions."
Many federal agencies including the Department of HomelandSecurity, the FBI, Department of State, Department of DefenseBiometrics Fusion Center, National Institute of Justice, and theNational Institute of Standards and Technology have set forth minimumform factor requirements for new live scan image capture devices. TheTouchPrint Enhanced Definition 4100 is one of industry's smallestfootprints for such a device and will become part of the nextgeneration Enhanced Definition product line from Identix.
The TouchPrint Enhanced Definition 4100 provides significantlyhigher pixel density and contrast, resulting in images that have farmore fine ridge detail than dictated by the Appendix F requirements.Like other Enhanced Definition live scans from Identix, the TouchPrint4100 employs technologies that take into account subjects withdifferent size fingers and skin colors, sweaty fingers and usersrolling fingers at different speeds. The system produces clear, crispfingerprint images with virtually no distortion or false minutiae thatcan be caused by smudging and smearing.
Auto capture features like audio and visual cues guide a user tocorrect finger placement and to when the processing is complete. Theinterface allows for a user to easily switch back and forth from slapand roll capture modes, and with a slap capture time of under 15seconds, is intuitive and fast. The TouchPrint 4100 is designed tomaintain consistent image quality over time. With no moving parts inthe optics deck and no silicon pads or coatings to change, thisportable, compact live scan provides maximum reliability and minimaldowntime, lowering the total overall cost of ownership.
Dr. Atick added, "Given the versatility and flexibility of thisdevice, it is ideal for border management agencies worldwide, andother entities that have dual requirements for slap and rollfingerprints. Our longstanding history in working closely with theFBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Department of State, and other state, local, and federal agencies, and international organizations helps to ensure that our solutions notonly meet their needs, but continue to accelerate biometric technologyadvancements overall."
