NDS Partners with VBox and Cyberlink to Deliver the First Fully Converged TV and PC Platform to 'Yes'
NDS (NASDAQ:NNDS), the leading provider of technology solutions for
digital pay-TV, today announced that it is working with VBox
Communications (VBox), Cyberlink and 'yes' to deliver on the promise of
convergence – enabling the ubiquitous PC to
become a secure and full-featured media center.
At IBC, the companies will come together to demonstrate the integrated
solution. The demonstration includes a DVB-S tuner from VBox integrated
with the NDS VideoGuard PCTM software –
protecting the content – along with Cyberlink’s
PowerCinemaTM, the popular entertainment
software for PCs.
The converged offering means that 'yes' subscribers can choose from a
very broad range of premium content that can be securely delivered to
their PCs for viewing.
"CyberLink is pleased to partner with
industry leaders to co-develop a secure end-to-end platform for
subscribing to premium TV services,” said
Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. "With
connection to the NDS VideoGuard KeyTM,
Cyberlink PowerCinema fully supports the NDS VideoGuard PC solution for
receiving premium TV subscription services on the PC.”
Shlomo Turgeman, CEO of VBox said: "As a
leading provider of TV tuner technology, VBox is delighted to be working
closely with NDS and Cyberlink to supply the first fully converged TV
and PC platform to ‘yes’. We
are also very pleased to be the first TV receiver integrated with NDS
VideoGuard for expanding pay-TV services to PCs.” "'yes' sees a great market opportunity in
PC-based entertainment as we are constantly looking for the most
innovative pay -TV applications to offer our subscribers,”
said Ron Eilon, CEO of ‘yes’ "By converging the technology of these
industry leaders, we are once again differentiating our service,
allowing us to combine our strong offering of high-quality video,
including our new HD channels, together with our 'yes' Broadband
services, providing our subscribers with a first-rate user experience."
VideoGuard PC enables broadcasters to expand their offerings to the PC,
thereby reaching new audiences and extending the value of their content.
The solution includes PC-TV software applications, and provides full DVR
capabilities.
The content can also be securely transferred to other PCs via the NDS
VideoGuard Key, part of the VideoGuard PC solution. The VideoGuard Key
carries out a full set of security functions on a mobile USB key. The
security parameters and viewing software are all embedded in the
VideoGuard Key. The result is that customers can easily watch their
programming on any PC.
"Our VideoGuard PC solution enables TV
operators to bring the total set-top box pay-TV experience to the PC,
offering real benefits of convergence to subscribers,”
said David Nabozny, Chief Sales Officer at NDS. "In
addition to broadcast TV, users can enjoy all DVR functions on their PC,
as well as Video on Demand and even home network management. This joint
offering with VBox and Cyberlink illustrates how both operators and
subscribers can benefit from the power of true convergence.”
PowerCinema supports full TV services including live broadcast channels,
digital video recording (DVR) functions, Electronic Program Guides
(EPGs), secure content downloads, on-demand services, and Video-on
Demand (VOD).
The VBox tuner provides a unique PC receiver that comes in both PCI and
USB form factors and is already integrated with VideoGuard®
such that the PC receives the requested channel pre-encapsulated in
VideoGuard DRM.
