Miami Children's Hospital Completes Multi-Suite Lawson Implementation Lawson Applications Supply Healthcare Provider with More Timely, Detailed Information; Help Improve Operational Efficiency
Lawson Software's (Nasdaq:LWSN) Human Resources, Supply Chain Management and Financials suites are helping Miami Children's Hospital (MCH) improve efficiency and gain real-time access to financial information so executives can make better, faster business decisions. A world leader in pediatric healthcare, MCH recently completed its implementation, meeting its nine-month deadline.
As the largest pediatric teaching facility in the Southeastern United States, MCH treats more than 185,000 pediatric patients each year. MCH is the only licensed specialty hospital in South Florida that is exclusively for children, and its medical staff is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medical care.
Lawson's integrated applications replaced a 13-year-old legacy system that required continual third-party-vendor interfaces to keep pace with the hospital's evolving needs. Migrating to the new Lawson system helps MCH operate more efficiently by automating administrative tasks such as paid-time-off balances and vacation requests from employees, and provides more accurate and timely information on supply costs to hospital managers and directors.
"Previously, we were spending a lot of money and time updating the functionalities of our old system, rather than working on becoming a more efficient operation," said Pedro Alfaro, vice president of finance at MCH. "For example, with the old system, we did not know the true cost of our supplies until the purchase order was created from a purchase requisition and forwarded to the appropriate department. Today, our integrated applications provide appropriate employees with access to pricing when developing a purchase requisition and increase the number of electronic transactions we have with our vendors. This results in faster authorizations and a more automated, streamlined and cost-effective process."
Lawson's Supply Chain Management for Healthcare suite is helping MCH reduce supply chain costs by more effectively controlling purchasing and payment activities. With Lawson's Human Resources e-Recruiting application, MCH is streamlining tasks, such as employee recruitment, with new functionality that enables prospective candidates to submit their resumes and applications online. Candidates instantly are matched against open positions and routed immediately to appropriate MCH staff. The time savings frees MCH HR personnel to pursue more high-value work, such as continued development of recruitment and retention strategies.
Using Lawson's Financials suite, MCH staff now has real-time visibility into the purchasing process. This capability better ensures sound financial decisions are made by hospital managers and directors.
"Lawson is helping MCH save time and money by providing a strong and efficient operational foundation," said Brad Callahan, executive vice president - professional services, Lawson Software. "As a result, MCH has more time to do what they do best - help kids get well. Lawson is honored to be a small part of MCH's success in the field of pediatric medicine."
