Media Advisory - Abitibi-Consolidated to hold media briefing before its Annual General Meeting

MONTREAL, May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. will hold a media briefing on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern) immediately preceding its Annual Meeting of Shareholders, which will take place at the Windsor, located on 1170 Peel Street, in Montreal.

John W. Weaver, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Pierre Rougeau, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer, will provide an overview of the Company's 2005 activities as well as respond to questions from media.

The media briefing will be followed at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern) by Abitibi- Consolidated's Annual Meeting, to be webcast live through the Company's website http://www.abitibiconsolidated.com/ under the "Investor Relations" section - "Presentations and Webcasts". A replay of the webcast will be archived on the Company's website.
