Massey Energy Promotes Clemens
RICHMOND, Va., July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Massey Energy Company today announced the promotion of Mark Clemens to Senior Vice President - Group Operations. In his new role, Clemens will be responsible for coordinating production with sales and shipments, and managing support services, including quality control, engineering, security and labor relations, for Massey's mining operations. Clemens received a B.B.A in Accounting from Marshall University in 1989 and is a Certified Public Accountant. During his 18-year career with Massey, he has acquired extensive operating and financial experience in coal production. From 1989 to 2000, Clemens held a number of accounting positions, including serving as Massey's Corporate Controller from 1997 to 1999. In 2000, Clemens was appointed President of the Independence resource group. Most recently he served as President of Massey Coal Services, managing the Company's planning, budgeting and cost accounting processes.
Clemens will be replacing Drexel Short who is departing Massey after 26 years of service to the Company. "Drexel was instrumental in building Massey into the leading Central Appalachian coal producer and we sincerely thank him for his many years of membership," said Don Blankenship, Massey's Chairman and CEO.
Massey Energy Company, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, with operations in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia, is the fourth largest coal producer by revenue in the United States.
