Peer-to-Peer Sharing
Peer-to-Peer sharing involves any distributed network composed of users who make a portion of their resources available to other users on that network. Organizations like the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) and The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) have fought to protect and enforce copyright protections held by their members, which are sometimes infringed by users of Peer-to-Peer file sharing sites.
"Recent years have seen massive filings of copyright infringement suits for Peer-to-Peer sharing,” according to David Nimmer. "In fact, more cases have been filed in that space than in all other copyright domains combined. Hanging over the whole field is the specter that a losing defendant might end up saddled with tens of millions of dollars in statutory damages.”
"We are excited to work with legal expert and author David Nimmer to shed light on the salient issues and present insights as to where the copyright debate around Peer-to-Peer sharing is ultimately heading,” said Phil Livingston, senior vice president of Marketing & Business Solutions at LexisNexis and CEO for Martindale-Hubbell. "Our ability to leverage these kinds of relationships is a big part of what enables martindale.com Connected to deliver better than any other online network, tailored, high-value content to corporate counsel, private practice lawyers and other legal professionals.”
In addition to the Webinar itself, martindale.com Connected is featuring within its Intellectual Property Group (http://community.martindale.com/groups/intellectual_property/default.aspx), a series of guest bloggers, discussion forums, and downloadable content as part of a larger legal conversation on Peer-to-Peer sharing and other Internet-related copyright issues.
