BOSTON, Sept. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Boston Children's Museum announced that major sponsors have signed on for the third annual Boston Mini Maker Faire. The event will be held for two days on October 6th & 7th, 2018, inside and outside Boston Children's Museum on Fort Point Channel. The Museum, in collaboration with Maker Media, CBS Boston, Boston Public Schools, the City of Boston, and partners Artisan's Asylum and NE First welcome sponsors Autodesk, BNY Mellon, BOSEbuild, Google, MathWorks, National Grid, and Vertex, who have all come together to make the Boston Mini Maker Faire possible.
This year's Boston Mini Maker Faire features a variety of local creatives, technologists, performers, artists, and speakers. Artisan's Asylum, one of the biggest makerspaces in New England, will be exhibiting robotics projects, art spectacles, and hands-on activities. NE FIRST Robotics will be showcasing students' robotics projects built at various ages, from kindergarteners to high schoolers. Higher education will also be represented by makers from Olin College, Brandeis Maker Lab, and Tufts Make Club. Boston Mini Maker Faire will also have exhibitors showcasing digital fabrication technology, metal-smithing, woodworking, textile art, audio-visual music performances, food trucks, and fun!
"BNY Mellon is committed to building the next generation's technology skills and innovative thinking to contribute to society in a digital world," shared Heidi DuBois, Global Head of Philanthropy and Corporate Social Responsibility at BNY Mellon. "The Mini Maker Faire offers children the opportunity to engage in activities designed to recognize patterns, develop problem-solving and other essential skills. We are proud to partner with the Museum on this community event that many of our employees will be attending with their families."
Admission to the Mini Maker Faire is $20 per person, which includes indoor and outdoor activities. The cost to Museum members is $10. Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement. It's a place where people show what they are making and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and support this community of makers and their inventive spirit.
The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2018 celebrated its thirteenth annual show with some 900 makers and 90,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in six years to 900+ makers and 95,000 attendees. Forty larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world—Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few—and over 170 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced in the United States and 40 other countries around the world.
Boston Mini Maker Faire is independently organized by Boston Children's Museum and operated under license from Maker Media, Inc.
