Major NYC Voting Blocs Join Forces to Hold First-of-its-kind NYC Mayoral Town Hall

AARP, NAACP, Hispanic Federation, Asian American Federation, NALEO Will Focus on Key Issues For Groups That Will Pick Next Mayor

NEW YORK, Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Next Tuesday, for the first time ever in New York City, the groups that hold the future of the candidates for Mayor, will join for the first time ever to host a Mayoral Town Hall. On August 6th, at Hunter College, AARP, the Hispanic Federation, Asian American Federation, NAACP, and National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), will host the voter engagement event focusing on where the candidates stand on key issues in NYC's diverse communities and those of concern to the 50+ population. Over 1,000 people are expected for the event.

Who:  Confirmed Candidates: Sal Albanese, Adolfo Carrion, John A. Catsimatidis, Bill de Blasio, Joe Lhota, John Liu, George McDonald, Erick Salgado and Bill Thompson

When:  Tuesday, August 6
            10 - Noon

Where:   Hunter College
Assembly Hall (North Building) (Enter at 69th Street between Lexington and Park)

Why:   Based on a recent AARP analysis, AARP members will account for about ½ of all votes cast in the upcoming NYC election, with diverse populations 50+ making up 47% of all voters. These groups will determine the candidates who move on to the General Election and they have some tough issues on their minds when it comes to safety, housing affordability, retirement and being able to live, work and age in NYC. This will be the first time these groups have come together for voter engagement efforts, and the first time AARP has been involved in city level political races.
