LOOP-LOC Discusses Five Ways to Keep Chlorine from Wreaking Havoc on Your Inground Pool Liner
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Aug. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Safety pool cover and pool liner manufacturer, LOOP-LOC, discusses five ways to keep chlorine from wreaking havoc on your inground pool liner.
Fortunately, today's swimming pool liners are much more resistant to fading from chlorine levels than they used to be. However, just because the color may stay the same, continuous levels of high chlorine is corrosive and can affect the vinyl's plasticity by slowly pulling the resins from the material. Follow these tips to prevent chlorine from damaging the liner.
Dissolve shock in a bucket of water. Before shocking the pool, place the shock in a bucket of water. After it dissolves, stir to mix it thoroughly, and then slowly pour it around the edge of the pool. If any dissolved granules fall into the pool, quickly hit them with a brush.
Don't shock the pool too often. Only shock the pool as needed. If the water is crystal-clear and balanced, it's only necessary to shock it every four to six weeks or so. Monitor the levels often.
Use a mineral sanitizer. Applying a mineral sanitizer will reduce the daily amount of chlorine needed in the pool. Maintain chlorine levels in the range of 1.0 to 2.0 ppm. Levels that are too high—for too long of a time—can start bleaching and damaging the pool liner. Therefore, it is vital to keep the chlorine levels strong enough to sanitize the pool, but not so strong that it will impact the liner.
Don't put tablets in the skimmer. If you prefer chlorine tablets, place them in a chlorinator or chlorine feeder. Contact a local pool dealer to have one installed.
Avoid using chlorine floaters. Using chlorine floaters—even during the cooler months—can come to rest on the vinyl, or topple over and spill its contents.
