LIN TV's Stations Win Two out of Four Peabody Awards for News

LIN TV Corp. (NYSE: TVL) today announced that two of its stations, WTNH-TV (New Haven) and WISH-TV (Indianapolis), are winners of this year's George Foster Peabody Awards, claiming two of only four awards given to television stations. WTNH-TV’s Alan Cohn and the Team-8 earned a Peabody Award for Defective Parts on Blackhawk Helicopters, a story that was developed over the past three years regarding allegations that defective helicopter parts were being installed on Blackhawk helicopters at a local Sikorsky Aircraft plant. The coverage led to a shake-up in the company’s management and an investigation by the Defense Department Inspector General. WISH-TV’s Karen Hensel and I-Team 8 earned a Peabody Award for its investigative series Command Mistake, uncovering startling truths about the safety of U.S. Military helmets currently used in Iraq and why they lacked $30 in padding that could make the difference between walking away from a blast and suffering brain injury or even death. "We are extraordinarily proud that WTNH-TV and WISH-TV are two out of only four local stations in the country to receive the Peabody Award - considered one of journalism’s most prestigious honors,” said Vincent Sadusky, president and chief executive officer of LIN TV. "It is another example of how great television can make a positive impact on the lives of so many.” The Peabody Awards are American broadcasting's most honorable prize. The stations are among 35 winners from TV, radio and the Internet. They represent the "best of the best in electronic media,” said Peabody Awards Director Horace Newcomb during a recent telecast. The awards will be presented June 4th at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
