LexisNexis to Unveil Plans for Congressional Hearings Digital Collection, Forming the Largest Online Collection of Congressional Information

New Collection Will Provide Academia Access to the Most Comprehensive and Easy-to-Use Repository of Congressional Information

LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of information andservices solutions, will unveil its plans for the LexisNexis(R)Congressional Hearings Digital Collection(www.lexisnexis.com/hearings) during the American Library Associationmeeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, from June 24 to June 27, 2006. Theintegration of the Congressional Hearings Digital Collection to theLexisNexis(R) Congressional service, which currently includes theLexisNexis(R) U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection and the LexisNexis(R)Congressional Research Digital Collection (CRDC), will form the mostcomprehensive online collection of congressional information availabletoday.

Throughout the last 35 years LexisNexis has been collecting andpreserving valuable congressional archives, which has led to the mostcomprehensive collection to date on microfilm. Now LexisNexis istaking the congressional hearings data, both published and unpublishedhearings, and digitizing it so it is easily searchable with metadatatagging, as well as full-text searching.

The state-of-the-art indexing from LexisNexis provides precise andfast search capabilities for combing through nearly 200 years ofcongressional hearings online. Hearings can be located by searchingfor the bill number, committee, controlled subject headings, documentor abstract full text, hearing number, public law number, Statutes atLarge citation, title, or witness and affiliation. Searches can alsobe limited by date or Congress.

The LexisNexis Congressional Hearings Digital Collection will beavailable in three modules: Retrospective A (years: 1824-1979),Retrospective B (years: 1980-2003) and Prospective (years: 2004 andbeyond), totaling close to 125,000 titles and an additional 1,500titles will be added each year after 2004. LexisNexis is targetingearly 2007 for the initial release.
