LeapFrog Releases Tag(TM) School Reading System
EMERYVILLE, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- LeapFrog School, the school division of LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. , today announced the release of the Tag School Reading System, the first-ever handheld-based connected reading solution to help students develop early literacy skills and become fluent readers.
Created for students in grades PreK-3, the Tag School Reading System includes the Tag School Reader, a pocket-sized, stylus-shaped handheld device that responds when touched to specially printed Tag story books. The resulting interactivity brings books to life and provides a more enriching reading experience. Students can hear characters talk, explore new story elements, respond to questions, receive supportive feedback, and participate in engaging skill-building activities that help develop confidence and foster a love of reading.
The system includes the Tag School Desktop Application, which allows teachers to connect to the Internet to download the library of audio for the Tag books and easily manage content for multiple Tag School Readers. All Tag School users will also receive access to a free software upgrade for web-based student progress tracking and reporting, available in February 2009.
"The Tag School Reading System provides classrooms with a fun, effective tool for inspiring young readers, while giving teachers a way to see how students are progressing," said Mike Lorion, president of LeapFrog School. "This simple, affordable reading system brings books to life, helping students develop critical reading skills while building a lifelong love of reading -- all without relying on student computers."
"My teachers will love working with the Tag School Reading System," said Elvis Epps, an assistant principal in Orlando, Florida. "Our young learners can use sight, touch, and sound to improve their comprehension skills and build their confidence as readers."
LeapFrog School is now taking preorders for products in the Tag School Reading System, which will begin shipping in June. The Tag School Reading System will launch with a 22-volume library of books. Two leveled collections of Activity Storybooks, for PreK+ and K+, cover foundational reading skills such as spelling, plurals, and compound words. A Children's Classics collection for grades K-2 features award-winning favorites such as Olivia, The Little Engine that Could and Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type that build vocabulary and comprehension skills. A special six-book series of Transitional Readers for grades 2-3 is designed to help students build their word-solving and story-structure skills as well as develop pre-reading strategies to improve comprehension and develop fluency. All books include fun activities for practice and embedded audio support to help students advance to the next reading level. This fall, seven Spanish and bi-lingual titles, as well as interactive activity accessories, will join the library.
