KMH Integration Launches "Center of Expertise" to Serve Converging IT and Broadcast Technology Market

NEW YORK, Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- KMH Integration, a leading service specialist in broadcast technology, today announced at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show the launch of a "Center of Expertise" to help clients benefit from the growing influence of IT and the internet in the development and delivery of broadcast content.

The new KMH Center includes a team of experts specializing in both existing broadcast tools such as satellite, fiber optic, microwave and cellular as well as more advanced platforms including IT, cloud and IP technology. Together, these channels represent where the industry is headed as hybrid broadcast systems become increasingly common.

KMH is deploying a new lab to evaluate the security and flexibility of its clients' IT networks while recreating various test scenarios to validate future implementations. This, along with experience garnered from more than a decade of cross-industry implementations, and partnerships with leading  vendors, is designed to deliver media management on an IT network.

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) is implementing new industry standards for media transport over IP. KMH is working with this organization as it rolls out SMPTE 2110, which will create a cross-industry platform for engineers and content developers to work together in this new environment.

"The broadcast industry is seeing major advancements that will render existing technology increasingly reliant on, and even replaced by, Web-based protocols that are faster, more flexible and less costly," said Kevin Henneman, president of KMH Integration. "With today's announcement, KMH is asserting its expertise and intent to lead this space on behalf of our clients."

According to an April 2017 report by Accenture (1), end users are dictating the new rules for broadcast, including the demand for so-called OTT, or "over-the-top" content delivered via the internet. "Broadcasters, now more than ever, have to be able to offer content anywhere (on and off network), anytime (live or timeshifted) and on any device (laptops, PCs, tablets and smartphones), at a low latency and in an easy-to-use, intuitive format," the report stated.

Accenture has also touted the specific benefits to broadcasters of storing and accessing content in the cloud, including faster delivery, scalability to meet spikes in demand, the ability to conduct analytics on data.

In addition to its own capabilities, KMH is leveraging partnerships with other leaders in the IT/broadcast space with media asset management and workflow offerings, including Sony Media Solutions, Momentum from Snell Advanced Media, Empress Media Asset Management (eMAM) and the Mediator-X offering from Evertz Microsystems.

Recent projects by KMH in the growing broadcast/IT space include Montclair State University's new $55M School of Communication and Media, which has multiple high-tech broadcast and production capabilities, the New York Giants football organization's new A/V production center, and similar projects at Viacom and Vice Media.
