The latest add-on module for the UniPrint Suite of printing products, Host Module makes it simple for mainframe (AS/400 and UNIX) users who connect through Citrix ICA or Microsoft RDP to extend their printing capabilities beyond the mainframe environment. UniPrint Host Module enables users to print from a mainframe application to a desktop or network printer both quickly and easily through an ICA or RDP session. Host Module is compatible with both the UniPrint Server and Gateway Module solutions launched in December, 2004.
    UniPrint Host Module is the perfect solution for mainframe users whose printing capabilities were previously limited to mainframe designed printers. By enabling users to print through an ICA/RDP session, UniPrint Host Module frees the mainframe user to utilize any available printer. Additionally, UniPrint Host Module eliminates the slow printing speeds associated with mainframe-generated print jobs by converting files from the large PCL5 format to the much-smaller Printable Document Format (PDF).
    Additionally, when printing to printers defined on the user workstation, UniPrint Host Module provides mainframe servers with a centralized location where print jobs can be sent, converted into PDF format, and returned to the user's workstation via the ICA or RDP session stream. The printing subsystem on the user workstation renders the PDF job into the native format understood by the destination printer, making it simple for users to print to the network printer of their choice - while simultaneously increasing print job speed due to PDF files being significantly smaller than the PCL5 file format.
