Health Net Federal Services is Re-Awarded Department of Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic Contract in Harrisonburg, Virginia

Health Net Federal Services, LLC, the government operations division of Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT), today announced it has been re-awarded a contract by the Martinsburg VA Medical Center (VAMC) to provide primary care, mental health care, women’s health care, and preventive health services to veterans enrolled in the VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located in Harrisonburg, Va. The clinic serves veterans residing primarily in the counties of Rockingham, Albemarle, Augusta and Greene.

"Health Net is honored to continue serving veterans in the Harrisonburg VA Clinic,” said Donna Hoffmeier, program officer, VA Services. "We strive to provide those we serve with quality care, outstanding patient access, and high satisfaction with our comprehensive health care services.”

Health Net has partnered with the Martinsburg VAMC to deliver primary care and mental health services in Harrisonburg since 1999. In serving the special health care needs of veterans, the Harrisonburg VA clinic offers chronic disease management, as well as health promotion programs, on a wide range of health issues such as smoking, hypertension, diabetes, obesity and heart disease. Veterans are screened and treated for conditions such as alcohol and substance abuse, military sexual trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The clinic staff ensures that veterans are treated wholly, and all aspects of their physical and emotional health care needs are met or exceeded by the primary care and mental health services offered.

"The Harrisonburg VA clinic gives us wonderful care,” said Teresa Wentz, an Army veteran who receives care frequently at the clinic. "I always feel comfortable and welcome when I go to the clinic. The staff is very friendly. They know you by name, and they take the time to make sure your health issues are addressed.”

Wentz served in the Army for 21 years before retiring about nine years ago. As a veteran with disabilities, she appreciates the close distance of the community clinic, as well as the ability to receive most of her follow-up care in Harrisonburg.

The Harrisonburg clinic staff also is sensitive to the special health needs of women, and offers women veterans the opportunity to be seen by one of three female providers in an exam room equipped to meet female patients’ needs. A full range of well-woman services is offered, and Well Woman clinics provide comprehensive women’s health care, including education, family planning, breast cancer screening, and cervical cancer screening.

"The women’s services are wonderful, and they give me a choice of seeing a female physician,” Wentz added. "I know that I can receive all of my routine checkups, follow-up care and my well-woman visits without needing to drive for two hours to the closest VA medical center. The clinic staff is very thorough, and they always take the time to talk to me and make me feel I’m not just another patient.”
