Google Faces Sanctions In Mexico Over Data Protection Breach

(RTTNews) - Google Inc.'s (GOOG, GOOGL) Mexican unit is facing actions for violation of the country's data protection law. Mexico's The Federal Institute for Information Access and Data Protection or IFAI has said that it has begun the process to impose sanctions on the internet giant.

The regulator said it initiated the proceedings after a request was received in September 2014 from a person who wanted Google Mexico to remove his personal data from the search engine and cease its use.

Google Mexico refused to do so, saying its parent company was responsible for the search engine. The regulator's attempt in December 2014 to make the company comply also failed.
