Google Apps Bug Exposes Personal Data Of Website Registrants
(RTTNews) - A bug in Google's Apps accidentally caused leakage of personal data of thousands of users for around two years, reports said. The websites registered through Google Apps for Work was at risk due to the error in the software.
Personal details of the registrants were available on the public domain, even after requests for anonymity while registering a website. The software was supposed to keep the details hidden from the WHOIS directory, but it automatically revealed the data.
The bug was first discovered by Talos Security Intelligence and Research Group, an associate of Cisco Systems, in mid 2013. Google fixed the issue by February 2015. According to Talos, the leakage might be used for malicious purposes as the archived Whois information would be available permanently.
