(RTTNews) - Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc.(FDP), Monday reported a sharp decline in third-quarter earnings, with rise in revenues, that was offset by a sharp increase in cost of good sold

Net income attributable to Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. was $6.4 million or $0.11 per share, compared with $23.5 million or $0.40 per share last year.

Excluding asset impairment and other charges, earnings per share were $0.09 in the third quarter of 2013.

On average, three analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings per share of $0.40 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Net sales was $861.1 million, compared with prior year's $788.8 million. Analysts expected the company to report revenues of $800.55 million for the quarter.
