Freescale Set to Showcase Automotive Electronics Innovations at Convergence 2006
Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) (NYSE:FSL.B), the leading supplier of automotive semiconductors, will spotlight advanced technology for next-generation vehicles at Convergence 2006, the world’s premier automotive electronics conference. Freescale will unveil microcontroller (MCU) products, showcase automotive system demonstrations and host an innovative concept car exhibit at the biennial event, which will be held at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Mich., Oct. 16-18. "Convergence is a tremendous venue for highlighting the state of the art in automotive technology,” said Paul Grimme, senior vice president and general manager for Freescale’s Transportation & Standard Products Group. "From our high-performance automotive microcontrollers to our sophisticated analog and sensor devices for safety systems, powertrain control and body electronics, we’re exhibiting our foremost innovations that will help the industry ‘reinvent the automobile.'” Freescale’s technology demonstrations and exhibits at Booth #709 support the overall theme of Convergence 2006: "Reinventing the Automobile.” News and Demo Highlights: Concept car: The highlight of Freescale’s booth will be a concept car that demonstrates the latest innovations in body electronics, safety systems, powertrain management, telematics and infotainment. Demo highlights include a body controller with the local interconnect network (LIN) protocol controlling the lighting and HVAC systems, a 3D navigation system, a roll-over prevention system and more. Powertrain: Freescale will demonstrate comprehensive solutions that include advanced embedded controllers, sensor technology, power management components and power actuator drivers for gasoline engine management. These electronic engine control technologies are designed to help improve fuel efficiency and to help reduce vehicle emissions. Infotainment: Freescale will highlight an infotainment prototype for a digital entertainment system that uses digital music sources and formats, a graphical interface, music database, touchscreen and a wireless connection to cell phones. Freescale also will showcase a Class D digital amplifier solution for multi-channel hi-fidelity audio; a virtual surround sound headphone demo for automotive infotainment systems; and a turnkey hardware/software solution that streams audio from a portable device via USB connectivity into the automotive environment. Safety: Freescale will introduce an advanced 32-bit MCU designed for active driver assistance/advanced safety applications, such as adaptive cruise control. Freescale also will demonstrate solutions for safety systems including remote tire pressure monitoring and electro-mechanical braking. Body: Freescale will introduce a 32-bit MCU family designed to enhance the performance, power efficiency and flexibility of automotive body electronics and demonstrate key technology advancements in central body control, climate control, lighting control and directional headlamps. Freescale is a leading provider of advanced electric motor control, sensor and analog technology designed to enhance body electronics functions and improve the overall driving experience. Development solutions: To help automakers streamline their systems integration, Freescale will introduce a software development solution that enables on-target, rapid prototyping for Freescale’s automotive 32-bit microcontrollers. In addition, Freescale will demonstrate its award-winning CodeWarrior® Development Studio, which provides a visual and automated framework designed to accelerate the development of complex automotive applications. "FlexRay - From Principles to Products” Technical Session: On Monday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. (Room M230), Freescale will provide an overview that explores the next generation of automotive products using the FlexRay™ protocol.
