Fox News Retracts European "No-Go Zone" Labels

(RTTNews) - A number of European cities are enraged with Fox News for spreading the notion that there are "no-go zones" for non-Muslims.

In fact, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo wants to sue Fox News for insulting the city.

"When we're insulted, and when we've had an image, then I think we'll have to sue, I think we'll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed," Hidalgo told CNN. "The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced."

She accuses Fox News of failing to take conservative pundits to task for making false claims about France and the United Kingdom.

One Fox contributor went so far as to claim the city of Birmingham was "totally Muslim:"

"In Britain it's not just no go zones, there are actual cities like Birmingham that are totally Muslim where non-Muslims just simply don't go in," Steve Emerson recently said on the network.

Fox News formally apologized over the weekend.

"To be clear, there is no formal designation of these zones in either country and no credible information to support the assertion there are specific areas in these countries that exclude individuals based solely on their religion," said Julie Banderas, a Fox News anchor in a correction aired by the network.

However, Fox News regular Bobby Jindal, Republican governor of Louisiana, refused to back down on his claim that civil authorities have lost control of some areas to Muslim religious leaders.

On a "fact-finding" tour of the United Kingdom, Jindal spoke of European cities where "nonassimilationist Muslims establish enclaves and carry out as much of Sharia law as they can without regard for the laws of the democratic countries which provided them a new home."

British Prime Minister David Cameron responded by calling Jindal "a complete idiot," and insisted that "no-go zones" don't exist in the United Kingdom.

"When I heard this, I frankly choked on my porridge and I thought it must be April Fools Day," said Cameron.
