Foundation Coal Announces the Resignation of Sr. Vice President of Planning & Engineering

Foundation Coal Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: FCL) has announced the resignation of Dr. Klaus-Dieter Beck, senior vice president, planning and engineering, effective June 2007. Dr. Beck has resigned his post to assume a board member role specializing in coal assets with New World Resources B.V., based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His seven-year tenure with Foundation Coal Corporation began prior to the company’s initial public offering in 2004 followed by an appointment to Foundation’s original senior executive team and becoming the first to head the company’s planning and engineering group. Since then he has worked with great determination in advancing Foundation Coal’s growth and success. Dr. Beck is widely regarded as one of the coal industry’s most prominent experts, foremost in the field of advanced mining technology, and engineering. Through his leadership and international relationships, Foundation’s affiliates have succeeded in deploying the first ever installation of 2-meter longwall shields and the longest working longwall face in North America, measuring 1450’. Jim Roberts, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Foundation Coal, stated, "Dr. Beck’s knowledge and expertise have been invaluable assets that have resulted in significant productivity improvements for Foundation.
