Fattah Statement: Economic Recovery Will Continue If We Get Back To Work
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the absence of a September jobs report, due to the government shutdown, Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement today, reflecting on cumulative job creation under President Obama:
"Without a jobs report today, we can only speculate on the trajectory of our country's economic growth. President Obama has already outperformed his predecessor in job creation, and there is every indication—including the ADP report of 166,000 private sector jobs added—September's job numbers will show that the economy added more jobs, accounting for the 43rd consecutive month of private sector job growth.
"Four and a half years into his presidency, Obama has created more than 2.3 million jobs, doubling that of President Bush who added only 1.1 million jobs in eight years. If economic growth stays on pace, we could see President Obama adding 4 million jobs in his two terms in office.
"The numbers are clear. We are on a strong path, but we can only continue along this path if we get back to work, end the shutdown, and return our focus to the priorities that matter most to Americans and will keep our economy moving in the right direction: job creation, education, eliminating our national debt, and comprehensive immigration reform."
