Energy Stocks Drive TSX A Bit Higher -- Canadian Commentary

(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks eked out modest gains Tuesday as crude oil prices spiked when Turkist air forces took down a Russian jet near the Syrian border.

Energy stocks jumped 2 percent and gold shares rallied, offset by weaker industrials and utility stocks.

WTI light sweet crude for December was up $1.20 to $42.94 a barrel.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 25.45 points to 13,407.83, having been unable sustain much direction since slipping to multi-week lows.

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (ATD.B.TO) advanced after announcing net earnings of $415.7 million or $0.73 per share.

Bombardier Inc. (BBD.B.TO) is forecasting a decline in earnings and revenue for 2016. Shares were down 4.8 percent.
