Eclipsys and Singapore General Hospital Recognized as Winners of Microsoft HUG 2010 Innovation Award
Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Singapore’s oldest and largest acute tertiary hospital and national referral center, has been recognized as a winner of the Microsoft HUG (Microsoft Health Users Group) 2010 Innovation Awards in the category of "Best Use of Clinical Records — Inpatient.” Since implementing Sunrise Patient Flow™ in May of 2009, SGH has successfully enhanced the workflows and communications of its clinical, administrative and support staff, achieving greater patient safety and significant improvements in both clinical and operational outcomes.
SGH employed a "big-bang” activation approach to complete the installation of Sunrise Patient Flow in only five months, and has since seen improvements in clinician and staff utilization, clinical workflow, and patient safety. Specific benefits experienced at SGH since going live include:
- Greater than 50 percent reduction in inter-ward transfer/bed request phone calls
- Bed searches and placements reduced from 15 minutes to five minutes due to rule-based algorithms
- A 12.5 percent reduction in overflow holding areas
"On behalf of everyone at Eclipsys, I congratulate Singapore General Hospital for this achievement,” said Eric Rosow, vice president and general manager of Sunrise Patient Flow solutions. "We’re proud to be associated with this healthcare system, whose great success with Sunrise Patient Flow — along with other integrated clinical solutions from Eclipsys — serves as an international model for effectively using information technology to improve patient care and outcomes.”
SGH selected Eclipsys’ integrated and intuitive bed management, bed turnover and patient flow system to achieve its goals of optimizing patient throughput and efficient delivery of quality care. Using Sunrise Patient Flow, the healthcare system coupled its workflow-based patient flow platform with CADI Scientific’s radio frequency identification and a real-time location system to streamline patient care from the point of admission to the point of discharge.
"The bed management system improves patient flow with real-time information that helps our staff anticipate and manage their workflow,” said Benedict Tan, director of information technology of Singapore General Hospital. "Together, we can drive patient flow through the continuum of a patient's hospital stay with greater efficiency. Ultimately this creates a safer and more satisfactory experience for our patients as we can better coordinate the resources needed to support their care.”
"Microsoft is pleased to recognize Singapore General Hospital as a Microsoft HUG 2010 Innovation Award Winner for its use of clinical records to transform the quality of its patient care,” said Steve Aylward, general manager, U.S. Health & Life Sciences, Microsoft. "Providing a safer and more satisfactory experience for its patients, SGH is proving to be a truly innovative healthcare system through their use of Microsoft technologies that utilize radio frequency identification (RFID) and real time location services (RTLS) with their Eclipsys Sunrise Patient Flow solution.”
Winners of the Microsoft HUG 2010 Innovation Awards were announced on March 2 at the 2010 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference & Exhibition in Atlanta.
