eBay Marketplaces Introduces New Business Development Team
eBay [NASDAQ:EBAY] today announced the formation of a new business development team within eBay Marketplaces. The team will be led by Michael Jones, who was named vice president, North American business development.
Jones joins eBay from ChannelAdvisor where he served for 10 years, most recently as chief revenue officer and chief operating officer, responsible for revenue, corporate development and acquisition strategies. Prior to ChannelAdvisor, Jones was vice president, product management, for AuctionRover.com. At eBay, Jones will lead the company’s efforts to attract new retailers and manufacturers to sell on eBay.com.
"Michael Jones has a proven track record in helping retailers and manufacturers succeed online, and his success in connecting merchants with profitable sales channels will help drive our future growth,” said Dinesh Lathi, vice president of seller and buyer experience at eBay. "Under Michael’s leadership, the new team brings a wealth of business development experience to eBay and strong, profitable relationships with many leading brands and retailers.”
As the world's largest online marketplace, eBay Inc.'s global portfolio of businesses enables hundreds of millions of people to buy, sell and pay online. In second quarter 2010, eBay Marketplaces reported more than 91 million active users worldwide, and three of eBay’s most popular categories each drove more than $1 billion in worldwide Gross Merchandise Value (GMV): Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, $1.4 billion; Technology, $2.2 billion; Home & Garden, $1.8 billion. EBay’s Sports category drove an additional $776 million in worldwide GMV for second quarter 2010.
"EBay’s fantastic platform and global presence combine to help retailers and manufacturers sell more products and reach more buyers online,” Jones said. "I am pleased to lead a team that will help eBay shoppers continue to find incredible deals by bringing more selection from brands they trust and value.”
Jones will be newly joined by Michael Mosser and Sam Shaffer, who will focus on eBay Fashion, directly engaging industry designers, brands and retailers to participate in Fashion Vault, eBay’s destination for limited-time flash sales, and launching branded outlet storefronts. Mosser previously served as vice president, business development, for Home Shopping Network (HSN). Shaffer joins eBay from the New York office of IMG Worldwide, Inc., where he was director, business development, for the designers and brands category.
Completing the team are Fredrick Crosby, Theresa Casey, Steve Dueck and Greg Snodgrass, who will focus on eBay’s Electronics, Home & Garden and Sporting Goods categories.
