Duke Energy Q3 Profit From Cont. Ops. Decreases - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Duke Energy (DUK) reported that its third-quarter income from continuing operations decreased to $891 million or $1.25 per share from $946 million or $1.33 per share, last year. Net Income per share attributable to shareholders was $1.80, compared to $1.42. The company reported third-quarter adjusted EPS of $1.40.
The company's reported results for the quarter were affected by a $477 million, or $0.43 per share, pre-tax reversal of a previously recognized impairment charge related to the sale of the company's Midwest generation business. The company noted that the impairment reversal was recorded in discontinued operations and has been excluded from the adjusted EPS results.
On average, 13 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $1.52 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total operating revenues increased to $6.40 billion from $6.22 billion, a year ago. Analysts expected revenue of $7.21 billion for the quarter.
The company said it remains on track to achieve revised 2014 adjusted earnings guidance range of $4.50 to $4.65 per share. Analysts expect the company to report 2014 earnings per share of $4.59.
