Dr. Elaine Watson Appointed Dean of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine

DeVry Inc. (NYSE:DV), a global provider of educational services, today announced that its Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) has appointed Dr. Elaine Watson as dean. Dr. Watson will assume responsibilities effective February 1, 2012 following the previously announced retirement of Dr. David DeYoung. Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine is a part of DeVry Medical International, which also includes Ross University School of Medicine and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine.

Since 2003, Dr. Watson has served as dean of the school of veterinary studies at the University of Edinburgh. She is a professor of veterinary reproduction, and a Jeanne Marchig Professorial Fellow of International Animal Welfare. She also served as a consultant to international veterinary programs and foundations across the world including City University in Hong Kong; the AAVMC-World Bank Taskforce to assess veterinary education in the developing world; and with international funders on a strategic review of international livestock consortiums. At Edinburgh, Dr. Watson initiated and led a $200 million capital development project to create the Easter Bush Campus, the highest concentration of animal scientists and veterinarians in Europe. She also developed the first strategic relationship between a pharmaceutical company (Pfizer Animal Health) and a veterinary school, and gained funding for the world’s first International Centre in Animal Welfare Education. Dr. Watson earned a Ph.D. from the University of Bristol and later a Doctor of Science from the University of Edinburgh.
