Doyle to lead Naples (Fla.) Daily News

CINCINNATI, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Chris Doyle, who has experience in both newsroom management and advertising sales, has been named president and publisher of the Naples (Fla.) Daily News, effective immediately.

Doyle, who began his career as an award-winning newspaper reporter in Key West, Fla., takes the reins of the Naples Daily News and its associated enterprises after serving one year as the newspaper's vice president of advertising.

The Naples Daily News is owned and operated by The E. W. Scripps Company.

"Throughout his career, Chris Doyle has improved the editorial quality of the newspapers he manages as well as the performance of the businesses within his responsibility," said Mark Contreras, senior vice president of newspapers for Scripps. "Chris is an extraordinarily gifted media executive and one of the very few in our industry who's worked in both the content and revenue areas of our business."

Doyle, 40, joined the Naples Daily News in 2006 as vice president of advertising after serving seven years as president and publisher of the Daily Chronicle and Northern Illinois Publishing in DeKalb, Ill.

From 1996 to 1999, he worked in advertising sales at The Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., first as an account executive and sales supervisor, and then as national advertising manager responsible for major accounts. It was at The Times Leader that Doyle, while serving as an assistant city editor, moved from editorial to advertising.

Doyle began his newspaper career in 1990 as the crime and courts reporter for The Key West (Fla.) Citizen. He served as the newspaper's city editor before leaving for Wilkes-Barre in 1995.

Doyle has a bachelor's degree in communications from Loyola University of New Orleans.

He is a board member of the Naples Chamber of Commerce and a past executive board member of the DeKalb County, Ill., Economic Development Corp. He also is a past board member of the Illinois Press Association and the Illinois First Amendment Center.
