Dental Offices in Nova Scotia to Reopen for Urgent and Emergency Care on June 5th
HALIFAX, May 27, 2020 /CNW/ - "I am pleased to announce that dental offices in Nova Scotia will reopen for urgent and emergency care effective June 5th ," stated Dr. Martin Gillis, Registrar of the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia.
Although dental offices may reopen, not all dental procedures will be immediately allowed.
Types of treatment available effective June 5th include treatment for dental pain caused by infections, chipped or broken teeth and broken fillings, as well as treatment for dental emergencies.
Effective June 19th dentists will be able to provide all dental procedures to their patients.
To prepare for reopening the Board has developed a COVID-19 Reopening Plan for Dental Clinics, which was developed by a working group of dental experts and is based on the best available science. Dentists must comply with the requirements in this Plan.
The COVID-19 Reopening Plan includes: strict screening protocols for patients and dental office personnel to ensure they do not have COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors; enhanced infection controls for offices, and; additional PPE requirements that will ensure the highest level of safety for patients and dental care providers.
The COVID-19 Reopening Plan is part of a larger return to practice plan for all oral health professions in Nova Scotia.
"The past eleven weeks of limited access to dental care has been extremely difficult for both patients and oral health care providers," stated Dr. Martin Gillis, the Registrar of the Provincial Dental Board. "I want to thank all Nova Scotians for their understanding and all oral health providers for their professionalism during these unprecedented times," continued Dr. Gillis.
