Delerrok's TouchPass Service Makes Use of NXP's MIFARE DESFire EV2 Platform
VISTA, Calif., Dec. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Delerrok Inc., a Southern California company, announced that its groundbreaking TouchPass Service is using the cutting-edge MIFARE® DESFire® EV2 multi-application platform from NXP Semiconductors in its latest implementation at SporTran in Shreveport, Louisiana. Delerrok became one of the first to use the new technology of MIFARE DESFire EV2 in North America when it incorporated the new features into its TouchPass Service debut at Rogue Valley Transit District (RVTD) in Medford, Oregon, and it plans to offer this best-in-class option in several other projects launching in the coming months. Combining NXP's most advanced transit smart card chip technology with its cloud-based electronic fare collection system, Delerrok enables small- and mid-sized transit agencies access to features previously available to only the largest agencies.
"To provide electronic fare collection to dozens of transit agencies as a maintenance-free subscription service, we need smartcards with consistently high performance and advanced security. The enhanced performance provided by the MIFARE DESFire EV2 platform gives us the edge we require," said Delerrok Chief Product Officer Gary Yamamura.
"It's good to see that Delerrok's TouchPass leverages MIFARE DESFire EV2's multi-application capabilities. With the TouchPass system's capability to prove card presence in a transaction, MIFARE DESFire EV2 becomes an ideal companion for cloud-based systems," said Miriama Faberova, Marketing Manager Transport at NXP.
TouchPass turns the traditional architecture of fare collection on its head. Instead of processing fare payments on buses for upload at the end of the day, TouchPass onboard bus Readers communicate directly with powerful cloud servers, which process fare payments in real time, allowing passengers to buy fare products anywhere at any time and use them instantly.
At agencies using TouchPass, passengers may obtain contactless smart cards based on the MIFARE DESFire EV2 multi-application platform, providing them with a convenient, state-of-the-art way to securely initiate fare payments at TouchPass Readers. Delerrok has found that, among its performance enhancements, the MIFARE DESFire EV2 multi-application platform offers a substantially improved read distance ensuring a smoother passenger experience.
