CSC-Led Team Reaches Significant Milestone in Migrating City of Los Angeles Employees to Google Apps Cloud Solution
CSC (NYSE:CSC) announced today that it successfully transitioned 15,609 City of Los Angeles employees to Google Apps, Google’s suite of Web-based productivity tools. This migration is part of the contract awarded to CSC in November 2009 to replace the City of Los Angeles’ current e-mail system and other applications with Google Apps for online collaboration.
"Thanks to the CSC-led project team and the new Google Apps suite of tools, the City of Los Angeles is experiencing greater efficiency and productivity gains while lowering operational costs,” said Randi Levin, chief technology officer and general manager of the Los Angeles Information Technology Agency. "As one of the first local governments to move into the cloud, we are pleased to have completed the City of Los Angeles cloud migration, allowing us to now focus on the final migration of the five bureaus that make up the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).”
At this time, 36 of the city’s 40 departments have migrated to Google Apps. The CSC integration team is supporting the City’s employees’ transition to the full suite of Google Apps, e-mail, calendar, documents and spreadsheets, Google Sites, instant messaging and video. Under the contract, CSC is providing its Trusted Cloud Services to include systems integration, security, training, migration and other end-user services.
"Through the extraordinary teamwork of the City of Los Angeles, CSC and Google, more than 15,000 City employees have migrated to Google Apps leveraging our Trusted Cloud Computing solution,” said Mike Gaffney, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector Civil and Health Services Group. "We are pleased to support the mission-critical communication and collaboration efforts of the City of Los Angeles and its employees.”
The city’s public safety users, primarily within the LAPD, will be the final employees migrating to Google Apps. Together, the City of Los Angeles, CSC and Google are working to finalize migration this fall.
"Google Apps is the first suite of cloud computing applications to receive U.S. government security certification,” said Dave Girouard, president of Enterprise, Google. "Los Angeles public safety officials can move to the cloud confident that they’re getting the best security available.”
