Conexant's Wireless and Video Semiconductor Solutions Selected by LG
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2005--Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, today announced that LG Electronics, a global player in electronics products for the digital era, has incorporated the company's PRISM GT(TM) 802.11g wireless and CX23416 MPEG-2 video chipsets in its new wireless liquid crystal display (LCD) television set. The wireless connection allows individuals to move the flat panel TV from place to place without having to unplug power cords and television cables. In addition, by simply connecting a transmitter to their wirelessly networked PC, consumers can access digital content that is stored on their hard drive, and enjoy entertainment such as music and movies on their new LCD television set. The CX23416 audio/video encoder incorporates the functionality of up to three different chips in a single device, enabling manufacturers to improve video quality while simplifying the product design process and reducing development costs.
"LG's new wireless LCD television clearly illustrates how networking and media processing technologies are converging to create a new class of home electronics products for today's digital lifestyle," said Chee Kwan, vice president of Wireless Data and Networking Components for Conexant. "LG is recognized as a leader in the development of distinctive consumer electronics merchandise, and we are pleased that they are using our semiconductor solutions for this revolutionary new product. We remain committed to delivering cost-competitive, wireless solutions to market, and expanding the scope of our video business to include applications outside the PC."
"We are dedicated to securing product and market leadership position through rapid innovation and fast growth, which makes it essential for us to choose a silicon partner that has these same traits," said John Taylor, vice president of Public Affairs and Communications for LG Electronics. "We are confident that Conexant's proven expertise in wireless LAN and video technologies and superior customer support will help us achieve these very important objectives."
Conexant offers an extensive suite of WLAN solutions including IEEE 802.11a/b/g and dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) chipsets, firmware, software, drivers and reference designs. The company's PRISM GT semiconductor solution supports data transmission rates up to 54 Mbps. It is Wi-Fi-certified and fully compliant to IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g standards. The chipset's cost and performance advantages make it well-suited for high-bandwidth consumer applications such as wireless video transfers, advanced home networking applications and multi-channel CD-quality audio and DVD-quality video streaming.
Conexant's video and multimedia product offering encompasses components and system solutions for all major consumer video applications ranging from standard and high-definition video to interactive consumer entertainment services delivered through a set-top box, PC, digital video recorder or game console. The CX23416 includes several features that provide end-users with high-quality pictures. For example, pre-filtering improvements include built-in noise filters that dynamically improve images in the pre-processing stage while reducing elementary stream bit rates. Other features include an increased motion search range, the de-coupling of motion estimation from encoding, and an adaptive quantization scheme.
