Colleges Show their True Colors as they Host Greener Campus Events
COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y., Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As colleges and universities gear up for classes to begin, one thing is notably missing from campuses across the country: plastic water bottles. An increasing number of higher education institutions, both public and private, are moving away from the use of single-use plastic water bottles in an effort to host more sustainable events. Icebox Water in a Box (www.icebox-water.com), an innovative new product that delivers its spring water in a pressed paper carton, is supplying an eco-friendly alternative to many environmentally conscious campuses including College of Wooster, Northwestern University, Loyola Marymont University and Humbolt State University.
"We respect and admire the environmental commitment of these colleges and universities and are proud we can provide them with a better alternative to bottled water with all the same convenience," said Robert Emmons, President of Icebox.
Since the beginning of the modern environmental movement in the 1960's colleges have been on the cutting edge of the sustainability, often trailblazing in areas like recycling and green building. Today's students are recognizing the huge impact small changes, like reducing use of water bottles or purchasing digital textbooks, can make. The effects of these changes are amplified during large community events like orientation, sporting events, and graduation when thousands of extra bodies are on campus. "Our bottles have a 76% smaller carbon footprint that PET plastic bottles; when thousands are being served in one weekend that reduction makes a huge difference!" said Emmons.
