China’s Huaiyin Normal University Hosts Constellation Energy Associate General Counsel Robert McKay

Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced that China’s Huaiyin Normal University (HNU) hosted Robert McKay, associate general counsel, corporate at Constellation Energy, from Sept. 20 through Sept. 24 as a visiting scholar and guest lecturer. McKay’s visit included discussions and lectures on legal issues and trends in the development of corporate governance structures and processes and anti-corruption efforts in the United States since the year 2000.

HNU has a rich history of producing government and civic leaders and its flagship academic journal, which frequently includes articles focusing on business management tools, has been ranked among the top academic publications in China. The lectures come at a pivotal time in China as the national and local governments begin to regulate the private sector using methods similar to those used in the United States.

"With China’s admission into the World Trade Organization, there are a number of new and interesting economic legal issues that our country is facing,” said Professor Ji Xiuping, Ph.D., Dean of the Law School, Huaiyin Normal University. "McKay’s lectures have addressed the role of mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. as a result of the credit crisis. We appreciate Professor McKay generously sharing his knowledge and practical experience with the students and faculty of HNU.”

McKay provided two lectures to approximately 400 students, as well as the law faculty at HNU, each of which were followed by an extensive question and answer period.

"That such an invitation was extended to one of our attorneys is further acknowledgment of our status as an innovative leader in many fields, including corporate governance and creating new strategies and solutions to address complex challenges,” said Charles A. Berardesco, senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer of Constellation Energy. "We are delighted to have had this opportunity to share our best practices with a distinguished audience of some of China’s brightest thinkers and leaders.”

McKay has been actively involved with U.S. and Chinese relations for several years. Most recently, McKay has worked closely with the Institute for Global Chinese Affairs, an organization based at the University of Maryland, College Park.

"The relationship between regulation and corporate governance is a rapidly developing area in China. This is an exciting chance to showcase and discuss recent developments in U.S. law and Constellation Energy’s response to those changes—a response which we believe is designed to support steady growth and preserve corporate integrity,” said McKay.

McKay’s visit took him to Jiangsu Province, located on China’s east coast.
